Frequently asked questions

About paying, the first session and what is private.

Do you take my insurance?

Flux is out of network, so we don't bill insurance directly. Many plans with out-of-network benefits reimburse part of a session. We don't bill Medicare or Medicaid. How fees work explains the rest.

What is a superbill and how do I use it?

A superbill is a monthly itemized receipt you send to your plan to ask for reimbursement. It carries a diagnosis code, which your insurer sees, and your plan decides whether it may reimburse any of it.

What is a Good Faith Estimate?

If you pay without insurance, you have the right to receive a written estimate of what care will cost before you start. We give you one in writing in advance, and How fees work has the rest of your rights.

How much does it cost and how do fees work?

Your therapist gives you the fee in writing before your first session. You pay by card for each session, and a session cancelled with less than 24 hours' notice is charged. How fees work has the details.

Can I use an HSA or FSA card?

Yes. HSA and FSA cards work like any other card for a session.

What happens in the first session?

You and your therapist talk about what brought you in, what each of you would like from the work, and how sessions run. You don't need to prepare anything, and you decide at the end whether to book another.

How long are sessions and how often do we meet?

Couples sessions are 50 or 80 minutes, and individual sessions are 50. Your therapist sets the pace with you, and you can change it as you go.

Are you licensed where I live?

Our therapists are licensed in Oregon and see couples in person in Portland. For video, you need to be in Oregon when we meet.

What do I do in a crisis?

Call or text 988, the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, any time. If someone is in danger, call 911. This website and our voicemail are not monitored around the clock.

What is confidential and what are the limits?

What you say in session is private, with legal limits: danger to yourself or someone else, abuse of a child or an older adult, and a court order. In couples work, your therapist explains at the start how something one partner shares alone is handled.

Can you see my teen?

Flux sees adults, 18 and older. If you are looking for a teen, we can suggest where to start.

What is your cancellation policy?

Please give 24 hours' notice. A session cancelled with less notice is charged the session fee.

Ready to take the first step?

Send a message and we will set up a short call to see which therapist fits. Sessions are 50 or 80 minutes.
